The Seed of the Sacred Fig (2025)
The Regal Cinema’s World Cinema series presents The Seed of the Sacred Fig.
Nominated for an Oscar, director Mohammad Rasoulof’s gripping drama-thriller received praise for the courage it takes to make a film like this. In fact, shortly before the film premiered at Cannes Rasoulof had to flee Iran to avoid being arrested for his work.
The film’s plot centres on Iman who works as an investigating judge at the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. As the nationwide political protests against the authoritarian government intensify, he is surrounded by suspicion and paranoia.
When his gun vanishes, Iman suspects his wife Najmeh and his daughters Rezvan and Sana, imposing draconian measures that strain family ties as societal rules crumble.
This film will be shown in Persian with English subtitles.
