Stand By Me (1986)
Stand By Me is a coming-of-age story that excites the imagination and explores the joys of childhood, the importance of friendship, and ultimately the inevitability that some friends grow apart as adult life begins to get in the way.
After the death of one of his childhood friends the narrator recounts an adventure of his boyhood: learning that a stranger has been accidentally killed near their hometown of Castle Rock, Oregon, four boys decide to go and see the body. On the journey the boys encounter many difficulties, all the time growing closer together and learning of the increasing complexities that comes with adult life.
Rob Reiner’s adaption of Stephen King’s novel contains performances by Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell, which, combined with the timeless coming-of-age story, has resulted in Stand By Me becoming a film which defined one generation, and is loved by all the rest.
