Peter Pan (1953)

Part of our FILM FESTIVAL OF FLIGHT: Friday 20th – Sunday 29th September 2019.

Based on the play Peter Pan (also titled The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up) by J. M. Barrie Peter Pan is now an infamous story that generations of children have grown up knowing and adoring.

The film begins with Wendy Darling (Kathryn Beaumont) and her two brothers shocked to see a magical flying boy named Peter Pan (Bobby Driscoll), who is supposedly in pursuit of his rebellious shadow.

He and his fairy friend, Tinkerbell, come from a far-off place called Neverland, where children stay perpetually young. Enchanted, the children agree to follow him back to Neverland. But when Pan’s nemesis, the pirate Captain Hook (Hans Conried), begins to cause trouble, the kids start to miss their old life.

Well-known for it’s impeccable animation, that still looks beautiful to this day, Peter Pan is a very early Disney classic; in fact it was just the 14th animated feature film to ever have been produced by Disney – for context there are now around 60 in total and that’s not even including live-action films with animated sequences!

“The detail is astonishing” – EMPIRE ★★★★

“A well-crafted animated feature from Disney with such great songs” – Radio Times ★★★★
