The film has become the first Korean film to ever win the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival and has recently become the first Korean film to be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture category. Parasite received a further 5 Academy Award nominations including Best Director and Best International Film.
Ki-taek is the penniless and unmotivated patriarch of his equally unambitious family, the Kims, who occupy themselves by working for next to nothing in their squalid basement-level apartment.
When a lucrative business proposition paves the way for a cunning scheme, Ki-taek’s son Ki-woo summons up the courage to pose as an English tutor for the teenage daughter of the wealthy and glamorous Park family.
Once Ki-woo is hired, the rest of the Kims, posing as skilled workers, integrate themselves into the lives of the Parks. When the Kims discover a Parks family secret life as both families know it is turned upside down.
