Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)

The Regal Cinema presents The Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis as the next installment of our Musical Monday monthly series.

Inside Llewyn Davis is a week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village 1961 folk scene; just on the cusp of the Bob Dylan era.

Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) is at a crossroads. Guitar in hand, he struggles against seemingly insurmountable obstacles to make a name for himself in the music world but success remains elusive.

Relying on the kindness of both friends (Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan, Adam Driver) and strangers, Llewyn embarks on an odyssey that takes him from the streets of Greenwich Village to a Chicago club to see music mogul who could give him the big break that he desperately needs.

Inside Llewyn Davis is rich with beautiful folk music sung by a medley of artists including Oscar Isaac, Bob Dylan, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Marcus Mumford and Punch Brothers.

“There is an intense sadness to this film, but glorious sweetness and tenderness, too” – The Guardian ★★★★★

“The film is wildly accomplished; moving and rich and funny and exhilarating in a way that leaves you prickling from toes to scalp” – The Telegraph ★★★★★

“Inside Llewyn Davis throbs with melancholy, hunches under heavy skies, revels in music history’s unsexiest scene and unapologetically leaves you dangling. It is also beautiful, heartfelt and utterly enthralling” – EMPIRE ★★★★★
