Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans (2019)
Horrible Histories’ first feature film follows the story of how Atti (Sebastian Croft – Ned Stark Game of Thrones), a smart and quick-witted Roman teenager, manages to upset Emperor Nero with one of his schemes. As punishment, he is sent to work in “the stain” that is Britain. Upon his arrival Atti meets Orla, a young Celt with dreams of becoming a warrior like Boudicca.
Director Dominic Brigstocke (the original director of the ‘Horrible Histories TV series) uses this narrative to tell the story of Roman Emperor Nero’s battle with his scheming mother Agrippina, and the Celtic queen Boudicca’s attempt to free Britain from the “rotten Roman’s” rule.
Featuring actors such as Nick Frost (‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘The World’s End’), Rupert Graves (‘A Room With A View’, ‘Sherlock’) and singer-songwriter Kate Nash, ‘Horrible Histories the Movie provides an educational yet exciting tour through the Roman Empire and Celtic Britain.
Rife with jokes that will keep both children and parents alike interested, while answering the all important historical questions of ‘Who are the Celts?’, ‘What have the Romans ever done for us?’ And of course ‘why is Emperor Nero dousing himself in horse wee?’ This is a film which is sure to please the whole family.
