Dead Poets Society is an American drama film directed by Peter Weir, starring Robin Williams and Ethan Hawke.
John Keating (Robin Williams) is a progressive English teacher with unorthodox teaching methods. Keating works tirelessly to encourage his students to break free from the norm, go against the status quo and live life unapologetically.
Dead Poets Society is set in 1959 at the fictional elite conservative Vermont boarding school Welton Academy.
The film received critical acclaim and was a box office success. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and the BAFTA Award for Best Film.
