The Regal’s Foreign Film series presents the Lebanese film Capernaum.
Capernaum stars Zain Al Rafeea, a Syrian refugee child actor, as Zain El Hajj.
Zain El Hajj is a young 12-year-old Lebanese boy who, after running away from his negligent parents, committing a violent crime and being sentenced to five years in jail, takes it upon himself to sue his parents in protest of the life they have given him.
This extraordinary film is the highest highest-grossing Arabic film and the highest-grossing Middle-Eastern film of all time having earned itself a huge $68 million worldwide.
Capernaum premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival where it was nominated for the prestigious Palme d’Or and won the Jury Prize. The film received a remarkable 15-minute standing ovation at Cannes.
The film is in Arabic and Amharic with English subtitles.
