Audience Choice: In Bruges (2008)

For the first time ever we are pleased to present a film chosen by our audience: In Bruges.

We asked our audience to vote for their favourite “unofficial” Christmas film. This festive season we are showing their top choice; this incredible black comedy starring Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes and Brendan Gleeson, made (somewhat) “Christmassy” thanks to it’s holiday-time setting.

After a particularly difficult job, hit men Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson) head to Belgium to hide out until things cool down.

Ray hates the medieval city they land in, but Ken finds its beauty and peacefulness enchanting. Their experiences become increasingly surreal and possibly life-changing as they encounter tourists, locals, an American dwarf and a potential romance for Ray.

“Make no mistake: Farrell has brought his A-game to this cracking little comedy-noir” – The Guardian ★★★★

“Those who know McDonagh’s work know a vein of darkness will run deeply through the comedy. It has seldom been darker. Or funnier” – The Washington Post
